Scuba Divers Federation of South Australia
Our People
Our Patron: Dr. Richard Harris - "Dr. Harry"
The Scuba Divers Federation of South Australia is delighted to announce that Dr. Richard Harris (Dr. Harry) has kindly agreed to serve as Patron for the SDFSA.
Dr. Harry is an avid and accomplished cave diver who has explored cave systems in South Australia, Western Australia, New Zealand and many other locations. He is well known internationally for his pivotal role in the 2018 rescue of 12 children and their coach in the Tham Luang Nang Non cave system in Thailand. In recognition of their service, compassion and selfless professionalism during that crisis, he and his dive partner Craig Challen, were awarded the Australian of the Year honours in 2019.
Having an eminent person serve as Patron to the Federation brings greater recognition and gravitas to our work as the peak body for divers, free divers and snorkellers across the State. We asked Dr. Harry whether he would be willing to take on this role, recognising of course his many other commitments. To our great delight, it took him no time at all to accept! Dr. Harry’s support for the SDFSA will be of great value to our work, our members and to the South Australian dive community in general.
