Finger food to be served during the evening and a bar will be available so that you can enjoy a catch up with buddies and listen to some great stories.

 Ian Lewis

Ian Lewis grew up in Mount Gambier and became a cave explorer in his teens, which quickly led him to take up scuba diving and cave diving. After exploring the Mount Gambier caves and sinkholes with his mates, he led the first two cave diving expeditions to the Nullarbor in 1972 and 1974 which has made this region one of the world’s premier cave diving locations. Ian was involved in the beginnings of the Cave Divers Association of Australia (CDAA) in the 1970’s and co-wrote ‘Cave Diving in Australia’ in 1980 with Peter Stace. In recent years Ian has been interviewed on documentaries about Mount Gambier and the Nullarbor for the ABC Catalyst program, National Geographic, Channels 7 and 9, the ‘Coast’ series and Japanese National Television. Ian will talk about how cave diving has become a respected activity due to documentaries and the recent miracle rescue of the young boys in Thailand.

 John Bent and Paul Lunn

John Bent and Paul Lunn became a team back in 1979 when they bought Adelaide Skin Diving Centre. Paul had worked at the shop for a few years, however John was new to the business, but not new to diving. After many years of working together in the store, they decided to undertake a grand new adventure, by searching for the treasures of the Spanish trading galleon Nuestra Senora del Pilar de Saragoza y Santiago which sank off the island of Guam in 1690. Paul stayed in Adelaide managing Adelaide Skin, while John moved to Guam to oversee the Pilar project (and run a dive shop whilst at it). They built up a friendship and partnership, which endures to this day. John is still playing at diving, but Paul has a new venture in Kangaroo Island as a BnB operator. Join John and Paul who will regale you with tales of the early days of diving and how to make a small fortune out of treasure hunting.
